A global report by Economist Impact, sponsored by Kyocera, reveals that only 3% of companies have developed the green skills necessary to succeed in a sustainable future.
In the face of climate change, resource depletion and rapid urbanisation, the need for sustainable development has never been more critical. As economic engines, cities often bear heavy environmental costs. As such, they have a significant influence on the cultivation and adoption of green skills within local businesses.
To understand what factors and trends impact the uptake of green skills, Economist Impact, sponsored by Kyocera Document Solutions, has produced a 2024 report: “A Green Edge: Green Skills for the Future”.
In this report, a survey of 300 executives captures the perception and development of green skills across some of the world’s most dynamic cities – Berlin, London, New York, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

86% of survey respondents identified an improved brand reputation as the highest benefit of adopting green skills in their company. This is backed up by other studies which have shown a growing link between product popularity and sustainability claims. In fact, growing consumer attention to sustainability will become the most important factor driving green skills adoption in the next five years, according to 78% of survey respondents.
